Breeders ‘thinking’ maintain blockages in Normandy – L’Express

The FDSEA Calvados “is considering maintaining the blockades” organized by the breeders of the major access roads of Normandy, said its president Jean-Yves Heurtin after a meeting with the Agriculture Minister Stephane Le Foll Caen. “We were not there to negotiate,” said for his part the Minister, who said he spoke of “all the sectors, pigmeat, beef and milk” with the producer representatives.

A report is expected in the evening

A report, much anticipated, the agricultural prices mediator shall be returned in the evening to the ministry. The report deals specifically with meat prices and the role of intermediaries (industry and distribution) and does not affect milk prices. But “clearly”, the sector is in crisis, said the minister, who met mainly dairy farmers of Normandy: “302 to 304 euros per tonne is insufficient” he insisted. Producers are demanding “at least 30 cents” per liter of better.

The government is preparing a contingency plan to be announced by Wednesday and the output of the Cabinet: “We work there,” he assured. Stéphane Le Foll has promised to “recalibrate aids so that they go to farms in financial difficulties, those who need it. Point.” This would be reduction in charges and fees and possible debt relief measures.

The Ministerial visit to Caen, claimed since Sunday by the dairy farmers of the region, was improvised at the end of a ministerial meeting in mid-day around the Prime Minister Manuel Valls. On Saturday, President Francois Hollande had intervened in the debate to call supermarkets to revise its prices.
